Discover Australia’s must-do cruises (with your handy sea sickness tablets in tow!)

It could be the gentle movement of the boat, or the sunlight sparkling on the water, or the sense of adventure as you cruise into the unknown – whatever it is, there is something truly special about taking a cruise.

As we live on ‘the world’s largest island’, Australians are spoiled for choice when it comes to cruises and boat tours in our own backyard.

If you’re prone to motion sickness, make your booking for an unforgettable cruise then stock up on travel sickness tablets like TravaCalm. Here are five of the very best to inspire you.

1. A Sydney Harbour cruise

The Sydney Harbour has been described as the most beautiful harbour in the world, and there’s only one way to find out for yourself.

Jump on board to view the Harbour Bridge and Opera House like you’ve never seen them before, and admire the Sydney skyline as the sun sets behind it. There are multiple options to choose from, such as lunch and dinner cruises, sightseeing cruises, and even cocktail cruises.

The harbour is fairly well protected, although the water can get choppy in inclement weather, so it’s a good idea to have seasickness tablets on hand just in case.

2. A NSW whale watching cruise

Each year, more than 30,000 Southern Right Whales migrate along the New South Wales coastline. They go north between April and August, before returning south throughout September, October, and November.

During these times, Australians can often watch whales from the shore. But for an even better view, you can take a cruise and see them up close. You’ll find cruise options from ports and harbours up and down the coastline, so you often needn’t travel far to find these majestic creatures.

As these cruises do leave the relative calm of harbours, it’s a good idea to take travel sickness tablets like TravaCalm ahead of your trip to ensure a settled stomach and an enjoyable trip!

3. A Whitsunday Islands tour

The Whitsunday Islands are a collection of 74 pristine islands on the Great Barrier Reef, just off the Queensland coastline. From unbelievably clear blue waters to velvety soft white sand, these islands are paradise on Earth, and a boat cruise is a wonderful way to explore them.

As such, there are a huge number of boat tours available. These include glass-bottomed boats, boats that have massive slides leading to the water, boats you can stay on for several days, boats that include scuba diving and snorkelling trips, and boats that come with kayaks so you can explore on your own steam as well.

If you think you might experience seasickness while exploring these islands, be sure to keep your eye on the (remarkably beautiful) horizon, and keep TravaCalm Original on hand to prevent nausea.

4. A live pearl harvest boat ride in Perth

In the far reaches of the Kimberley of Western Australia, the crystal-clear waters off the coast of Broome produce some of the world’s largest and finest pearls. They come from the Pinctada maxima oyster, and on a Willie Creek boat tour, you can head out and watch the harvest.

This tour introduces you to the harvesting process of the Australian south sea cultured pearl, and teaches you about the dangers of modern-day pearl farming. You’ll learn what goes into valuing a pearl, and learn about the full process of creating these sought-after treasures.

5. A Murray River cruise

The Murray River spans Victoria and part of South Australia, and is the country’s largest river system at over 2,500 kilometres in length.

There are three spectacular boats that cruise this river, each offering a unique experience. The Murray Princess Paddlewheeler is a beautiful boat that was built specifically for the Murray River, and is the largest inland paddlewheeler in the southern hemisphere. The Proud Mary was inspired by the boats of the Mississippi River of the 1800s, and the PS Emmylou is the world’s only wood-fired cruising steamer.

Each of these boats provide stylish and comfortable cabins, wining and dining on board, and different package options for destinations and itineraries.
